ALL OF OUR AUCTIONS ARE PRIVATE DUE TO THE OVERWHELMING FAKE EMAILS SENT TO UNDERBIDDERS. This item was sold by Swann Galleries at their April 29, 2004 sale, lot #226. Verification by Marco Tomaschett, Autographs Department- Swann Galleries NY. This is a very rare item that measures 4 1/2" x 8 1/2" and with frame 12 1/2" x 16 3/4" and is signed on the front "A True Copy: Mark Twain." Extremely difficult to photograph and with a lengthy humorous inscription on the reverse that is somewhat hard to read it says that the bearer has made a contribution to the Seaman's Fund according to the decree of an Admiralty Court aboard the steamer Zahn who have found
Mark Twain "guilty of inordinate and unscientific lying." A fantastic historic item it also says at sea 12 July with no year stated but it is sometime in the 1890's. Twain material is extremely difficult to find and highly sought after. Like all of our auctions this museum piece is being listed without any reserve so good luck and it is GUARANTEED GENUINE. Also, be sure to check out our other historic items that we currently have on offer. Very careful packing, shipping, and insurance by DHL will be $35.00 in the U.S. or $50.00 foreign All major credit cards accepted by fax with a signature. All sales final.
